[] Unemployment rate
Twin Cities Compass spotlight on this important and timely economy and workforce measure. Data are from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

Consumer price level
The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics' annual index of consumer prices for the Twin Cities 13-County area.

Earnings flow across state and county boundaries
The Bureau of Economic Analysis provides gross commuters' flow of wages earned at a place of work in one geographic area to the workers' residences in other areas. For data on the positive or negative flow of earnings into or out of each county in Minnesota by commuters, select "30 Residence adjustment" and "Minnesota" in Step 2.

[] Educational attainment
Educational attainment for adults age 25 and over is featured in the Demographics section of the Twin Cities Compass web site. Data are available by county, race, gender and poverty status from 1990 to the present.

Effective tax rates
In the Minnesota Department of Revenue compiles data on the effective share of taxes paid by each income decile of Minnesota's households.

Employment and labor force trends
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) provides employment and labor force data from the local area unemployment statistics (LAUS) for the 7-county region by month.

Income distribution
The Minnesota State Demographic Center reports on trends in Minnesota's income distribution from 1980 to the present.

Industry establishments, employment and wage trends
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) aggregates unemployment insurance filings into the "Quarterly Current Employment and Wages" (QCEW) data series each quarter with information on establishments, employment and wages by industry.

Industry sales, payroll, establishments and employment
U.S. Census Economic Census for the 13-county area provides sales and employment data by industry.

Jobs and businesses net change for Minnesota
DEED's spreadsheet file showing the jobs gained and lost by establishments expanding or contracting employment for a net change in Minnesota's employment. 1992 to the latest QCEW data.

Job trends by community
The Metropolitan Council's employment by community and county for the 7-county region, 2000 through 2007, using QCEW data.

Job vacancies
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) survey identifies the number, location, occupation, industry, wage and other characteristics of open-for-hire job vacancies in the 7-county region, and elsewhere.

Labor force projections
Minnesota State Demographic Center provides quick access to labor force projections 2000-2035 by county, region, and for the state overall.

Land use
The Metropolitan Council provides generalized land use data for the 7-county area and its political subdivisions approximately every five years. Statistical tables with land use categories available for cities, townships, counties and metro. An interactive (GIS) land use map is also available.

Occupations in demand
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) compiles a list of occupations that are most in demand by region and for the state overall.

Per capita personal income
An alternative to the Per Capita Income key measure used in Twin Cities Compass, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis offers data on the 13-county area that includes non-monetary income such as food stamps, Medicare, etc.

Price of government
Minnesota Management and Budget provides data on the price of state and local government for Minnesota residents. Data are available from 1997 to the present.

Purchasing power profile
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute provides purchasing power data for common consumer items by zip code for 100 metropolitan areas, including the Minneapolis-St. Paul 11-county area. Uses Decennial Census and consumer expenditure survey data to construct estimates.

Transfer payments
The Bureau of Economic Analysis provides income transfers for which no current services are performed, such as pensions, unemployment benefits and medical care paid by governments, nonprofits and businesses for the 13-county metro area.

Cost of living
A calculator developed by Jobs Now Coalition. Figures the wage each worker must earn in order to have enough income to cover the family's basic needs budget. Click on "About the Wage and Budget Calculator" for instructions.

The Development Report Card for the States uses 67 measures to provide a relative, state-by-state assessment of economic development.

DataFinder Cafe (Metro GIS)
An interactive tool for viewing and downloading GIS data sets. It allows you to download data sets by custom geographic extents or selections. The Cafe also allows you to browse GIS land use and attribute mapping data sets. Knowledge of GIS is required.

EconData.Net
A compendium and guide to regional economic data.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (RECON)
Drill down site with data on real estate, industry, employment markets, and other data on economic conditions. Site provides graphs and tables of selected data resources.
